This guide uses cases drawn from real engineering situations, in order to allow engineers to practice ethical reasoning as it applies to these situations. However, in terms of developing better ethical awareness and reasoning skills, there is no substitute for dealing with the dilemmas and decisions that each of us faces daily. The ï ¬ rst step is recognising these when they arise. Analysing them and responding eï ¬â‚¬ectively goes to the heart of personal and professional identity. It is our intention to update and add to the case studies over time, reï ¬â€šecting the changes in technology and society that aï ¬â‚¬ect engineering ethics. Ethics, like engineering, is a practical subject, and its exercise is in debate and discussion.
